Cape Overberg - The Most Southerly Region in Africa
The Overberg is an expanse of land that lies on the Southern most tip of Africa.
Golden wheat fields, splendid forests and fragrant Fynbos are enclosed by majestic
mountain ranges on the Eastern, Western and Northern boundaries; and roll out to a
compelling coastline in the South.
Walks in the mountains, kloofs and along the coastal plains of the Overberg are mesmerizing.
The area is covered with the largest variety of Fynbos (protea floral kingdom) on earth .
Coupled with the magnificent vistas and overwhelming skies you never seem to be able to absorb it
all, but always come away feeling renewed and more aware of the magnificence of planet earth.
No matter what the weather!
Getting to the Overberg from Cape Town is a beautiful journey along the N2 highway.
(The same road that leads to and from the famous Garden Route.)
You know instantly that you have entered the Overberg as you round the first corner at the
top of the Hottentots-Holland mountains and a sea of forests stretches out before you.
After travelling through forests and orchards for half an hour you then descend the the
Houw Hoek Pass to the heart of the Overberg - a vista of gently curved and cultivated
lands stretches out to the horizon.
